A couple of weeks ago, I discussed the current event and the debate going on about if art should be taught in schools. I was curious to see how the debate was going and how the comments were. Again, 70% of the majority said yes and 30% of the majority said no, but this time there was more comments on why the people said no. Last time there was only comments for saying yes and no comments for the reason why the 30% of people said no. The negative comments were discussing that art is pointless, art is evil, math and science are king, it should be an option, and art is not something that everyone has to know. The comments do not give out names for, but some of the comments talked about future careers not needing art and if someone is not good at art, they can get down on themselves for not being talented. One person took art in a religious perspective and connected art to worshipping the devil. Many of the other comments discussed art should be an option and not a requirement. That is should be either an after school class of if people are really talented with art.
This debate can connect to our unit because these people have the right to express their opinion even if its in a religious term or a negative way. The people do not have to say their personal information and just have to say their opinion on why they sided with yes or no. Our rights in the Bill of Rights give this freedom to the people and the people exercise and take use of it whenever they can,
